Many, many years ago, when it were all fields around here, etc., a new toy came out in the UK. It had been on sale in other parts of Europe for several years, but here, it was new. We called them 'Play People', and they were possibly the first iteration of what we now call 'action figures'. My kid brother had loads - mostly road menders, but some Cowboys, too. I was a bit too old to play with them [they were released in the UK in 1976], in all honesty, but I did, simply because the accessories were frankly astonishing, and the figures fitted in the hand so nicely, having that quality that I have heard referred to as 'Spielzeug' [depressingly, most handguns feel definitely 'Spielzeug', and, once picked up, one is loath to put it down again]. Many years later, my brother's daughter found how great Playmobil figures were, and she loved them because of all the tiny 'bits' that came with them. She loved the odd ones, like the ghost, and the mummy, and the witch. If you flick through the Playmobil catalogue, some of the items within will make you feel that you have to have them. I have resisted... thus far, but seeing the figures that I have posted pictures of below, I might not have enough will power to resist... If I do get them, they'll stay in their boxes. Possibly.
