In an unlikely turn of events, the band CAKE played my little podunk town last night. They were most excellent! 'Course, they declined to stay the night here, and hightailed out of town ASAP. But the opening band, Rock Kills Kid, who were notified only two days ago that they had to be in the middle of nowhere to open for CAKE, were a bunch of really nice guys from LA -- I know because they came to the bar afterwards and my wife and I bought them a round of drinks.
