Cigar-shaped Object
The Sunday funnies
are filling my life
with unbearable sexual tension again
and the streets are busy
with too many people
who need a way off-planet
.right now
I play the role
of everyday Joe
who has inside him
the alien ringleader,
this in itself is a cover
for a omnipotent being
from the universe before this one,
before I know it, it's Sunday again
and I suffer the rakes and shoals of desire,
at night, countless citizens
watch the skies for the fast moving light
that won't be a plane or Venus,
and deep inside my soul,
something scratches like a rat
at the walls of our reality,
its face a mask of pain,
eyes gone numb with disappointment,
the mouth an O of every need you can think of
and all the rest that you can't

Everything I know about gazing into the Abyss and the Abyss gazing into me I learned in kindergarten
At the age of, I think, two or three
I hadn't grasped the concepts
of "night" and "day" yet.
I would wake up in the middle of the night
and seeing the total blackness outside the window
I would deduce that the world had been destroyed.
The sun,
the trees,
the grass,
the road and neighbor's house-
all gone.
Gone forever.
My tiny heart heavy with despair,
I'd climb back into bed
to dream of everything I had lost.
The next day,
my relief that the world had been given back to me
could barely be contained in my body.
I would spend hours looking at
one patch of blue sky
or a lengthening shadow
working it's way across the floor.
Day into night,
night into day,
despair-relief,
relief-despair,
everything began
to blur into each other.
I became a mere watercolor
of a boy,
I drifted smoke-like through the day,
the adults demanding:
"Why are you so quiet?"
The kids at school asking:
"What are you looking at?"
The darkness outside the window requesting:
"Can a part of me live, always, in the larger spaces inside you?"
