So, I have almost been in Austin for two years.
The move made so my son could finally start school with primary Deaf education. When we lived in Dallas we had limited resources, and the only real options were the Regional Day School in Mesquite which was really geared towards amplified (cochlear implant or hearing aids) students. Our son does have cochlear implants, but they never benefited him. The other option being private school and spending 20K a school year in tuition.
We have always wanted to move to Austin as they have the Texas School for The Deaf, and it has always been what we wanted to allow for him to grow with individuals that are just like him. I never had enough money saved up for us to just straight quit everything and move.
2015 I switched jobs and started working for Amazon, 10 months in, I was provided with an opportunity to transfer to Austin with our newly opened corporate office.
We started the process of getting him enrolled to TSD and ran into a few road blocks, which now has him working within Deaf Education with Austin ISD.
So long story even longer, it has been amazing watching him grow the last 6 months. He has went from being able to barely count to 10 in sign language to being able to count to 50 with no issues; to going from pointing to things to having small conversations; to actually being able to read and signing books.
We have always known that he was very smart, we just never had the correct tools and support until I was gifted this transfer 2 years ago.
