Wrecked my back last week. Finally getting back to normal. Going to see Step Into Liquid tomorrow. http://stepintoliquid.com I can't wait. Surfing has been such a big part of my life for over 20 years. Can't believe how much I miss it here in Minneapolis. Hope the movie will bring me back to sanity.
Being a nice guy sucks. I don't get it, I held a door open for a pain in the ass oops! I mean lady today and she went into a huge rant about how she can open her own doors, she doesn't need a man to open the door... I am a pig and sexist... Well fuck me. I would have held the door open...

Well it finally hit me like a ton of bricks. I am land locked. I went to a wave pool yesterday and all I could think of are the real waves that I was missing back home and how I will be missing every swell till November when I get back to see family.

Perhaps it is time to say fuck the rest of the world, we are going to worry about our own here in the good ol US of A and stop being the world's police force. Let France deal with Liberia. Let Israel deal with their problems. Let the Euros deal with European issues. Let China and S. Korea deal with N Korea.

i believe it was isolationism that got us in this mess in the first place, post cold-war/go-go 90's was a me me decade. i think the lesson is that you must be engaged in the world. especially in the middle east where they are practically begging us to solve their problems.
benign imperialism so to speak...
p.s. i went to the andy warhol museum in pittsburgh last week, saw a farah fawcett exhibit and a recreation of what is considered the beginning of it all, a faux grocery store with fake produce that cost more then real produce. this store was an actual exhibit back in the early 60's and confronted the abstraction of value in a capitalistic society...

Went back east last week. Got the luggage of the carousel and found a little TSA tag on it. Felt a little light, but I thought it was just me. Got it home and low and behold, I was missing 4 brand new shirts tags still on and my favorite shorts. Fuck me.
My bags get inspected and I am missing $150 worth of clothes....

Went out boozing last night. Got chatting with some folks and as the night progressed the topics turned to world events, Politics and such. I don't understand far left wing folks, they preach diversity, the right to speek out, ... But, when it comes down to it, their minds are more like "We respect everyons opinions as long as they are the same as ours"...

... and the man has spoke. Ah, the booze can always bring out the best or worst in people. Myself, nothing but the best!

I am in such a depretion right now. I have been hitting the gym like my life depended on it(which it does) for the past 8 weeks. 5-6 days a week. Pounding steel, burning up the cardio equipment, and I only lost 1 pound. Had a second fit test done, Body fat, VOMax, flexibility, and strength. Made great gains on all of them(except body fat),...

Are drug use and addiction a character flaw, weakness, or are they based on brain chemestry? I will hope for others thoughts on this one. I am conflicted about this topic.

you opened one nice can of worms, my friend. i personally don't care for 12 step programs and favor the health realization method of recovery. different discussion.
i believe that the 12 steps can be used in one of two basic ways. some addicts find a strength in the group that allows them to develop a positive sense of self that fosters spiritual growth and healing of the previously mentioned emotional hole. this is what i meant by the strengthening of ones character and will.
then there are those who buy into the powerless addict identity and become dependent on the group for their good feelings. they get the same high from positive feedback that they did from the chemicals. these are the people who never recover and end up filling the hole with the group. their self worth is predicated on the approval of others.

Depends on why your doing the drugs inthe first place I guess, through most of high school I did meth and acid on a daily basis. I came from an inter-city school to all most boon docks where people grew up toghter, and I was already and odball to begin with, so to disconect from where I didn't want to be I did alot of drugs. After this continued from quit some time and the friend I was hanging out with and useing with started ODing I realized I didn't want to be there either, in about a months time I disconnected from my friend, dropped every thing inculding smoking, and started to make friends with the wierdo in my school. I generaly think of it as a tool or aid to get through rough or confusing patches in life anyboby who keeps on using isn't trying very hard to find a salution to what ales them. wheater it be presciption or self medicated. When shit hit the fan and you know there is nothing you can do about it that day, get tanked and spark a fatty thats what I do.
Missed the SG Twin Cities jam last night by a wisker. Oh well. I woke up today sooooo fatigued that I thought something was very wrong with me. I never woke up so beat.
The day progressed and I got my energy back. Feeling ok now.
Can't help to think about where things are in my life right now. Everyting that made me me back...

i haven't read that book. i wanted to yak about the nature vs. nurture thing. we all know examples of this. my good friend is from a white trash background and had nothing but lazy, welfare fraud perpetrating, drug addicted criminals for role models. with few exceptions he was surrounded by fuck ups and offs.
he is one of the most ambitious and driven people i know. clearly an argument for nature over nurture. the one thing that gets him occasionally is the lack of experience with reasonable people. he looks at everyone as an adversary and feels like he has to do everything for himself. he works harder than he has to.
that was to be my opening example. i think the strength of ones character has more to do with the outcome of ones life than either factor alone.
i fully support a character strengthening flash butterfly!

So I started to read this book Dharma Punx. It's about this thirty-something dude's evolution from Drugged out punker in the 80's to Buddhist and meditation Guru of present day. The thing that turned me off right from the beginning was that he states he started smoking pot and huffing at the ripe old age of 5 years. He also stated that at 5 he...

Went skateboarding for the second time today. The first resulted in a big ol knot on my elbow and one on my shin. The second day was a bit better, I started to carry speed through my turns and grinds. I got three wheels out on the 1/4 pipe and slammed hard twice.
All in all a great couple of days. I never realized how...
