Thesis Update:

So it's about that time in my career. I have to settle down, and get hitched. The first draft of my proposal is getting sent to my advisor some time tonight, and it says that I want to marry Samuel P. Huntington. Okay, so maybe I need to rephrase that a little bit.

My advisor told me Friday that my proposal is not about fixing my topic, it will not be set in stone by any means. "The proposal is like," he said, "a snapshot of you before you jump into the swamp." Regardless of how accurate this may be, I find it intensely comforting. It is a pinch point, a tight mountain pass, to be sure, but hopefully not one full of Spartans.
