So, Papa M last night...

HD and I turn up early and sit in the bar on a couch by some girl who's sleeping soundly through everything. She's attractive and well dressed but has heavy bags under her eyes like she's been up speeding for a few too many nights in a row. So we sit there speculating as to who she might be and how she came to be asleep on this couch until, eventually, she gets up and leaves without ever so much as looking in our direction.

Later, when we go in to the gig, who should we see sitting next to David Pajo on stage, playing fiddle and singing back-up vox than this self-same slumbering sweetie!
It was pretty funny. HD thought it typical that the only woman he fancied in the whole place turned out to be 'the fucking artiste'. Me I fancied a girl with spikey blonde Pink-style hair and terrific tats (upper arms, lower back and I can only imagine where else... wink ) - definite SG material...

As for the gig itself, I thought the same thing I think whenever I listen to Papa M's 'Whatever, Mortal' album: the sum of Pajo's parts adds up to a very pleasant sound, but tends to leave the listener feeling somewhat disappointed as to the dearth of actual songs...

That said, 'Whatever, Mortal' remains one of my all-time favourite album titles. Other contenders would probably be 'The World Won't End' by the Pernice Brothers and 'Souljacker' by Eels.

Today I watched Thelma and Louise for the umpteenth time in preparation for teaching it next year. It's one of the few films I can watch over and over again without getting bored. Louise and Thelma's flight from straight society (in every sense) remains a joy to behold.
Quoth Thelma: 'I don't remember ever feeling this awake'.

If Sagittarius is the second greatest sign of the zodiac, which is the first? I once saw a bra strap bracelet in a small boutique somewhere. I didn't buy it...one of my few regrets. frown

I love Thelma and Louise too. Such a beautiful happy unhappy ending. smile

I have not seen KB2 yet. It is on my agenda for the weekend. mmm ms. hannah.

My secret to having the balls to go to a bar alone? I dance. I adore dancing. And when I've got enough light in me from dancing, I will get a drink and survey the crowds. If I see someone interesting. I will make eye contact and then approach them with a comment, usually something silly or surreal.
