Blah...

Tuesday down...Thursday to go. At least for this week, then it all starts again next week. frown I am still amazed at the idiots that have the nerve to call themselves "students."

Best of luck with the rest of the week. You should design a new tattoo for yourself, or watch Resident Evil and utilize the pause button on all those lovely shots of Milla... I dunno...I sympathize with the frustrating day.

Hehe, yes, that would be a preferable form of excercise. smile I dunno, that sounds like the genesis of some of the worst pickup lines in history ("If you think I have endurance here.."). Hmm, if I ever want to work on that form of endurane again I'd better not. wink

Feeling great this morning...full of energy and enthusiasm. biggrin Pretty remarkable after spending the majority of yesterday angry.

I practiced yoga this morning and I was reminded how I've neglected my practice. I didn't realize my body missed it so much. No more 3 month hiatuses! Busy is not an excuse!

I have some time before I have to go teach tonight. I thought I'd curl...

I think Tolstoy's (paraphrased) insight that "all happy families are alike, but all unhappy families are different in their own way" is a good analogy. I may be wrong, but it seems to be that there are many more varities of being eveil than being good, which tends to make the former more compelling...

Yeah, if we can just get an all-night music store open here. I can actually make sure to spend my entire paycheck before Monday.wink
I am addicted to urban life, which will make my inevitable placement at Eastern Mississippi Tech all the more depressing...

The worst part of graduate school - aside from the endless hours of homework, heavy-duty reading assignments, completing research, finding time to maintain personal relationships, the strenuous hours of teaching courses, lack of benefits, poor respect and horribly long hours - are the idiotic students.

Today, there was an assignment due in the anatomy and physiology laboratory I teach. Well after class ended, I received...

Actual text of an excuse I received this week. It's like even he new the first one wouldn't fly, and then invented some more bullshit to try to put it over. Ugh. But at least he called he sir!

"Sir;
It was my mistaken impression, somehow, that the response paper was due on the 29th of January and not the 27th. I was ill on the 21st through the 27th,
and including today (however I am feeling better today) with stomach cramps, and severe dehydration however I did not go to the doctor because my health insurance has lapsed and it costs me money I don't have to go. I did not intentionally miss the deadline, and I am wondering if (while the syllabus says no exceptions, I know) there might possibly be an exception for a grade-point reduction or something? I have looked at my other classes to see if there was anything due on the 29th, I am not really aware of where that date came from or
why it's firmly lodged in my brain as the due date."
stiles:
Heh. I wasn't as serious a student as i should have been when i got my BFA. I did work my ass off, and did everything on time, got good grades, etc.
When i went to GM for my automotive degree, i was as serious as a heart attack - Dean's list or President's list every semester.
It helps if the student is paying for it themselves, and they are studying something they enjoy.
Those late students can learn now that there is no do-over in real life. You miss a big deadline at work, you get fired.
C'est la vie.

I know the question on everyone's mind is what did I do with my free day, right?

Here's an account:
*Woke up at 8 am
*Cranked out 5 future lectures for my teaching duties
*Showered
*Had lunch
*Took a mini-nap (about 30 minutes)
*Spontaneously met a friend to see the movie "Chicago"
*Went out for Chinese

I only managed to spend the morning in my...

Ah, tomorrow is Wednesday....a day with infinite possibilities. What will I choose to do with my day? Perhaps I will visit with a friend. Who am I kidding? I don't have any friends! Or have lunch alone at a swanky restaurant. Is McDonald's considered swanky? Maybe I'll spend the entire day in my pj's, rolling around in bed. I might even shower if the mood...

I think you, me, and Jessica should start a "slothful graduate student" club. smile
I wrote about it a bit in my journal, but the party went well enough, thanks for asking. I guess I would say that it was a risk I needed to take, and it went very well on those terms. If that makes sense.
Happy day off! biggrin

*jealous*
I had class today from 10am-3pm straight. I had 10 minute breaks with which i had to haul ass across campus to my next class, which i was already late for (making a good first impression.) and what's worse is that by the time my last class was over i hadn't eaten for like 22 hours straight (since dinner last night) and i was starving. plus now i have an essay to write and a bunch of reading to do and it's only the second day of class!
next wednesday can i come roll around in bed with you and eat fast food instead?!

I'm officially old.

Aside from the assloads of gray hair that have plagued me since I was 17, I pulled out some old CDs today to listen to in the car. Listening to them makes me feel old! I mean, I listen to the new music that's out there right now and it isn't that great. Just mediocre. Nothing beats the old shit that...

Hey, being a grad student and all and still part of the ivory tower, if you happen to hear of any peace protests or political rallies going on in the area would you pass them on? My ties to my liberal arts alma mater aren't much use on the activism front any more since it's a bit out of the way for me now...*sigh*
Thanks for the ink/piercing info, btw. It'll probably be a bit before I can afford to get anything done though. Some friends of mine actually got some work done at the piercer you recommended and had the same opinion.
quiescence:
Oh, and you're not old. (I totally agree with your opinion on the music front) wink

I have the urge to do dye my hair. Not just to cover the grey this time (and there's a fucking lot of grey these days). I would love to have some bright red streaks in the front, or maybe tip the ends in purple. I just wish I had the know-how and guts to actually give it a try....my hair is just so damn...

i agree with holdensolo. if you're out of high school, then going to a salon is the only way because there's no cred to care about earning by doing it yourself. that way, you can be sure the bleaching, if necessary, is done evenly and properly without over-frying your hair, thereby making the color come out nicer and staying longer.

now, as far as color goes, it really depends on how serious you are, and the color of your eyes. blue washes out in about a week to a nice dish-water grey color, so unless you're into doing lots of touch-ups, i wouldn't recommend it. green is good, particularly if you are lucky enough to be blessed with brown eyes and particularly if it's a nice dark forest or hunter's green. bright lime green tends to make everyone look pukey, for obvious reasons. purple is always a winner (and was always my favorite) especially if you have green eyes--purpler hair makes green eyes go pow! bright red is of course fiery and sexy, and works well with every eye color. the only downside to red is that it's the biggest commitment. i think the only way to get that stuff out of your hair short of cutting all your hair off (always a cute option) is by going with black hair because bleaching it again will just make it go a nice clown shade of orange, unless you bleach it so much all your hair breaks off anyway. so, if you get sick of the red, you'll be committed to black hair for awhile.

it's a crapshoot, really. a fun crapshoot, but a crapshoot all the same.

still, it's always great to play around with your hair, so i would totally recommend doing it, crapshoot or no.

I've never listened to Johnny Cash much. Recently, I heard he did a remake of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt." I always thought he was a country singer with an affection for black clothing. However, I'm beginning to think he's more a folk singer than country.

Anyway, I've always loved NIN and was moved by "Hurt" when it was first released. Now, the lyrics...

I left my planner at school today and I won't return to campus until Tuesday. That means I have to make a special trip all the way there tomorrow just to pick it up. If I don't get it, I will completely overlook everything I need to accomplish this weekend. What if I wrote something especially critical inside that just can't wait?

Fuck.

Yeah, I have my schedule worked out this quarter so that I theoretically only have to be on campus twice a week--but it never really works out like that.

Ah, I love Wednesdays this semester. I have no obligations! Today, I think I'm going to spend the day catching up on work (preparing lectures, making labs, etc.). It seems like my "Inbox" is never empty when it comes to school work.
