Ahh, finals. When my students would come in and ask, even though they had skipped 5 days, missed 2 assignments, and only finished 4 pages of a 10 page paper, could I give them some extra credit? What if they wrote another paper? And didn't I know they paid my salary, and shouldn't that count for something?

I spent 11 years trying to get 18-19 year olds to understand what a thesis is, how to research without resorting to Wikipedia, the reason the Harlem Renaissance had to happen, how to connect Walden to the modern world, and why Stephen King sucks monkey balls. All for almost no money.
