I'm on a vacation in North Carolina -- from Florida -- and here's the difference between people accustomed to natural disasters and everyone else. In Florida, whenever there is severe weather, like tornado warnings, local television stations put scrolling text at bottom of the screen and usually also a little box with the latest doppler radar. If the station does interpret broadcasting, it's for a few minutes, max. I'm here on vacation when last night a storm passed through with two tornadoes. In addition to all that stuff, all the local stations (except for FOX, those brilliant people) cut into broadcasting for fourty-five minutes. Fourty-five minutes! They continually said the same thing over and over, every few minutes said that the tornadoes had moved a little. It was like commentary on a snail moving across a long hallway, or watching molasses grow.
