My mother's here visiting. I love her, but I already felt myself being driven up the wall when the first words out of her mouth were, "Ew! This place [our apartment building] is supposed to be NICER than your last place?" And she said it with a wrinkled nose. I ascended the stairs behind her, thinking murderous thoughts. My husband has been getting all these...

Hmm, if only you could find a doppelganger for her who *didn't* drive you insane...

New York's a big city. She *must* have a twin lurking somewhere in the five boroughs!

Wow, that remark sounded like my mother. Maybe we're related.... tongue

There are some things I just don't get. But one thing I am choosing to focus on tonight is: PICKY EATERS.

Yeah, you know who you are. wink

See, my theory is that picky eaters wereallowed to use their pickiness as some kind of way to get attention, or to be willful in that anal retentive sort of way. I had cousins who refused to eat...

Hmmm, I hear ya-

2 things

-ya got the cultural aspects you mention(like no Fu Shiang pork kidneys with duck blood for me).

-me thinks the childhood thing kicks in -many people I know that won't eat an item were forced to as kiddies

When I was a kid I ate EVERYTHING, yes, I even liked spinach and liver, and I love to try new foods, but now because I'm mostly vegan/vegetarian and I don't eat refined sugars and I don't like spicy food I find myself *sounding* like a picky eater, and being labled as one by SurlyMike :-p, but I really don't think that I am, I just have limitations as to what I can eat (if I eat sugar now it will actually make me ill). I still love to try new foods and I *do* get annoyed when I encounter truly picky eaters, like the girl I work with who doesn't like for vegetables to be mixed together. What the fuck?! She's 40!!! And her kids are picky eaters, go figure!

I have to be a good girl and get some more pages of my book read. I am trying out this book club (I know, there's no way to say it so that it doesn't sound lame!) that my friend invited me to join. I was intrigued simply because they chose an awesome book: "de Kooning: American Master". Anyway, our meeting isn't until the end...

I'm trying to read my e-mail and SG posts. It's not that I'm that popular...just that I can have heroic levels of inertia when I decide to use them. tongue

The weather was supposed to be crappy today, but it's a beautiful, sunny day. My bestest buddy is meeting me at my place, and then we're going to have lunch at Dumont. They have a lovely garden, which will probably have a waiting list. If I'm smart, I won't be drinking, but I think I'm already tasting the bloody mary. Sigh.

I scored some fabulous...

Admittedly, October would bring a weather risk, but the two islands are quite nice, indeed. That's not too surprising, of course. smile I absolutely love the Caribbean, but I've usually been there between January and March.

I was only on St. Kitt's for parts of the trip, but I did get the chance to drive the wrong way down a one-way road on Nevis. On which of the islands is the vet school?

I'm doing some serious thinking over what type of computer to buy next. I understand PC's more, and they seem far more versatile as far as hardware upgrades, software cracks -- sorry! -- and repair cost. Macs seem to be the direction everyone's moving in, though, and they're great in their own way. I hate not having a right button on the mouse, though! Any...

Don't get a mac!
It ain't worth the money.
Who's David Atenboro?
corkscrew:
I just switched to a Mac in January (I was completely raised on PCs) and I am absolutely in love with it. I can't say everyone would have as good an experience as I did, but switching over was the right choice for me.

I hate the Mac mouse too, by the way. I just bought a regular mouse.

There used to be a picture here. I got tired of trying to fix it.

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today. I caught the end of Dr. Phil. He tried to come up with another witty Southern-ism but it died half-way through. He should have a staff dedicated just to writing fresh ones for him every day. Judge Judy was rather entertaining. I...

Where's that patard, because I think I done and got hoisted by it! At least I didn't say "fat", so I thought "hairy" was fair. I mean, have you seen yourself? Good God, man! eeek
