I took the day off from work today to attend some friends' quickie 1 Centre Street wedding. For all of you non-New Yorkers, that means one of those government building/Justice of the Peace weddings where the people getting married usually go back to work afterward. That's how my husband and I got married, almost three years ago. Instead of an American-Irish union, though, this one was American-Japanese. I'm very happy that a visa renewal situation has brought yet another two people in love together to take the great matrimonial leap. I was lucky it worked out so blissfully for me. But anyhoo, here are some pics I took of this beautiful day:

Here's where we met:

The ghetto-fabulousness of a city wedding:

The adorable bride and groom:

This is during the ceremony. They both look quite serious. It happens so fast that you don't have to time to really process much. The same Justice of the Peace that married me and my husband was there today. She was the one who kept saying my name as if it were a Spanish name, and that's exactly what she did to my friend today, even though she has a Japanese name. That lady's a gas. Afterbirth and Anaxerete were at my wedding, so they know what it was like. Not only that, but that's where they also got married years ago.

So, the weather is beautiful today. So clear, sunny, and warm. It's a nice break from the blahs we've been suffering from. This is one of the many handsome buildings in the Chambers area of downtown Manhattan.

This is the bride and groom after the ceremony, looking fabulous. She was so cute today. She was wearing an X Girl dress with white pumps and green beads.

This is the Federal Building. I think it looks really cool juxtaposed against the classical-style buildings. But there's no juxtaposition in this shot, sorry. Just a closeup. (Can you spot the vents?)

These are some nice shade trees that we sat under as we waited for the bride and groom to emerge from the city building. My husband kept trying to warn me that I was going to sit on pigeon shit and I was all like, ah, who cares, I don't see anything. Lo and behold, I sat in pigeon shit and it happened to be positioned right over my butthole when I stood up. So it looked like I crapped on my pretty blue dress. I managed to rub it off so that it was fairly invisible.

We walked from 1 Centre Street to Canal Street to have lunch at New Pasteur, which is an amazing Vietnamese restaurant. Their food is delicious and it is extremely cheap. Like $3.50 to $8 for heaps of fresh, wonderful food. I had the BBQ beef with vermicelli, and I couldn't even finish it. This is a typical Centre Street scene in Chinatown: a NYC Yellow Cab and a shop selling sheap Chinese wares.

All in all, it was a lovely day and I was glad to have taken the day off to join in the ceremony.

Also, enjoy this YouTube I found this morning. I didn't think I had room for another website addiction, but I can't get enough videos of animals acting cute or misbehaving. miao!! shocked biggrin

For whatever it's worth, I'll be able to give you a first-hand report about GoCars come late October. Friends of mine are to be married in October and will be honeymooning in San Francisco. Since I wasn't able to attend the wedding, I decided to catch up with them at the tailend of their 7 days in the Bay Area. Yes, yes, I know that that could appear to be horning in on their horny time, but do keep in mind that they've been living together for years now. Thus, they should have their nuptial nookie when they first arrive.

The record was ruined, but it didn't reach the point of melting onto another surface. Years later, I was able to get a tape of the melted record, but it just never really replaced the feeling of loss I'd created with my youthful absent-mindedness. tongue

No spinach pies in a year? eeek What kind of life is one without spinach pie??

Nice new pic, looks cool. Do they have those lights like that everynight at ground zero, or was it just today?
