Arg. New look for SG. I guess I'll get used to it eventually. It seems a bit buggy for now, though. Sometimes it all seems to be gilding the lily, you know? Anyway, I can tell it's going to be a lazy Saturday for me. The weather has finally cleared up, thank goodness. My seedlings had been dying slowly because the soil couldn't dry out due to the damp and lack of sunlight. It was amazing to watch people in the lobby of my office building seeing that it was raining outside (as it had been for a whole week!) and saying, "Shit. It's raining, man!" And then they'd stop in their tracks, get back on the elevator, and bring down their umbrellas. I guess they don't have windows in their offices. Or common sense? *shrug*

A new acquaintance, Val, who's a super-cool chica, had invited me, David, and Aaron to meet her for birthday drinks at The Orchid Lounge on 11th & Avenue A. There was no place to sit, which makes me drink more because it's hard to hold a conversation and get comfortable when I'm standing, and hey, I'm jammed next to the bar anyway so what the hell? There was the typical, annoying East Village riff raff: the young, corn-fed, shiny faced college tots that like to dance on tables -- if they can (dancing in NYC is almost impossible due to the cabaret laws -- and you thought Footloose Syndrome was endemic to the South, eh?)

TOL makes specialty Asian-themed drinks, and my drink of choice last night was the China White Lily, which was cinnamon vodka mixed with coconut milk and Bailey's. They were very strong but so scrumptious. We had noticed that there was a gong in the middle of the wall behind the bar, and wondered if it was used for anything. A little under an hour later, we hear the gong being sounded, and then everyone around us squealed with delight or screamed, and they all rushed toward the bar. Two waitresses had trays laden with shots of Sour Pucker. So that's the kitsch of the place.

The three of us wished Val a final happy birthday, and went to 1st Ave. to get a slice of pizza. I think I got something sausagy -- definitely lotsa meat! Aaron keeps somewhat kosher, so he always has veggie pizza. To each his own, but I was enjoying my dead animal on cow juice last night. Fucking carnivore, I know. All you vegans out there, pray for my soul. wink

This was taken at a wonderful little Brooklyn gem called Moto. I've spent many happy moments there. Enjoy your weekend all. kiss

Ewww, bratwurst. That's just so gross! puke I can still recall how unpleasant it was to chew on gristle.
And, of course, I wouldn't imagine that I could do a Wisconsin accent, either. I'm just hopeless, I suppose. wink
