My mother's here visiting. I love her, but I already felt myself being driven up the wall when the first words out of her mouth were, "Ew! This place [our apartment building] is supposed to be NICER than your last place?" And she said it with a wrinkled nose. I ascended the stairs behind her, thinking murderous thoughts. My husband has been getting all these surprise gigs while she's been here, so I can't even rely on him for a buffer.

I try to remind myself that family is important, and yet family can tend to be the most cutting, annoying, etc. I don't know, I'm feeling maudlin right now. This wishy washy weather has me spun around.
