it's just been a SG chicago week here in corn-land. a day or two after polonovia, jamieT, and ohjayfloe were in the studio, i did some work on rawk...
and started a piece on jaxs1984...
in the cd player: Battalion of Saints. i never gave them a listen back in the day 'cause i thought they were metal. man, was i stupid. punk as fuck! super fast and catchy chord progressions ( a la minor threat), with a little metal riffage ( in a good way, like the first suicidal tendencies record), and vocals like....well.....let's just say you can actually hear his vocal chords shredding. good, good stuff.
it's weird what music you don't listen to just based on album art or first impressions. i never gave the Germs a listen because their "performance" in the Decline of Western Civilzation was so lame. years later i heard G.I. and was hooked. now they're one of my all time faves. i wonder what else i've missed. that's what i really like about punk. 20-25 years after the fact, i'm still getting turned on to new music. new to me anyway.
