Well I have been plugged into The Matrix since this morning. It was a pain working though the protocal stacks and lines of code for the interface.
Ok, So I just went to EB and put down 5 bucks on The Matrix Online. Right now the game is in beta. If you want to play the beta it is about 1.7 GB. Better have a damn good connection at broadcast depth to "Jack In". When the game is released it will play 56k without a 5 hour download.
There seems to be some neat things about it as well as some horrible things.
To be honest right now they have the game at 60% completed from my guess.
Plus:
*Game mimics Matrix environment with introduction and story as so far.
*Missions are playable
*Easy to use Interface (Almost too simple, Think of The Sims with Big Icon Buttons)
*Player customizations being added often
*ATI based Graphics
*Development: Monolith. Warner Brothers, and SEGA
Minus:
*The Interface (HUD)- Looks too simple for a Matrix game and Not of a Strong Matrix Style in my opinion.
*No HUD Map for Agent or enemy location when close range
*Camera Angles- No First Person, Has hard time working with Walls, Can sometimes be unlocked from a chase mode and make it hard to move, Movement primarly done with Keyboard arrows While still having to use the mouse for camera (I.E. Stairs)
*Mention of Factions but little to tell how they work or how important they are- Probably added in last
*Controls- Movement Sucks, Combat is Different,
*Combat- Lets say it REALLY needs Scraped. It's turn based, but has weird random numbers generated to see who hits who (This seems like it is calculated based on ability yet is very random, I can see a d20 system working better than this). 4 Types of Attacks but your lucky if you get the upper hand and can do damage, if so only once since the numbers seem to weigh against you.
This game was scheduled to be released last year, BUT since someone pulled funding the project had to start over. It's a BETA. Things will get better, I hope a lot is reviewed *COUGH* Scrap Camera Movements, Combat Engine and Interface *COUGH*
I will still play it when it comes out even if somethings are slightly .... FUBAR. My Rating As of Today: 3 out of 5
On a lighter note: SNOW NEEDS TO GO THE FUCK AWAY. I WANT SUMMER!
I got my ticket for Slipknot!
