Dump Cingular, go Verizon. I have had NO problems with them, I am shocked. And tell Cingular to go fuck themselves.... actually, dont do that, they will send your ass to a collections agency and then your credit will take a dive bomb to the slums. See if there is any way they will allow you to pay that large sum in shifts. Give them a call, cant hurt!

For what it's worth, I've had some luck talking nice to a cell phone company as if I were being pulled over by a cop: I'm SO sorry officer, I had no IDEA I was going that fast, etc.

That and "I thought I had changed my calling plan -- that's why I went so far over...etc. I coulda sworn I called in and changed it. I've been a customer for such-and-such length of time, do you think you could see your way to helping me out of this, etc etc."

I think your chances are probably better that way than telling them to go fuck themselves. I've had a handful of jobs working as a phone-answering type of person and was always happy to bend the rules for someone who was cool to me -- and all too happy to fuck over the assholes who threatened me.
