Greetings my fellow Hopefuls, SGā€™s, friends, fans and strangers hehe. Happy Holidays to you! Whatever that may be, Iā€™m wishing you the best!

There are quite a few holidays that take place this time of year and Iā€™ve wondered why ā€˜Christmasā€™ is and always has been the default terminology. That being said I have generally altered my celebratory wishes to ā€˜Happy Holidaysā€™ rather than Merry Christmas as my attempts to be as inclusive as possible. Iā€™m not ā€˜againstā€™ Christmas by any means, my family celebrates it BUT..

I grew up religious most of my life but hardly agreed with most of the teachings and the stories especially as I grew into puberty and realized how it is applied in daily life and as an adult, my Christian high school helped with that. Anyway, upon discovering Christmas is a holiday stolen from the pagans I kinda called it quits. Since Iā€™ve been doing more research and teaching myself new things!

Iā€™ve also encountered more people in my life the past few years who celebrate Hanukkah or just nothing at all because of their culture. Which you never know unless you ask, so sometimes splattering Christmas in someoneā€™s face is questionable.

Iā€™ve started to invest myself more into the celebration of Yule for myself, while still celebrating ā€˜Christmasā€™ with the family because when it comes down to it I think no matter the holiday you celebrate it is about being with the ones you love.

But Iā€™d like to ask, what holiday traditions do you have? Do you celebrate Christmas? Yule? Kwanza? Hanukkah? Tell me about your culture and traditions! Iā€™d like to know, maybe learn something, honor your celebrations as well. So happy holidays! What is yours? šŸ’š

@skisby that sounds amazing! And exactly what itā€™s all about. My family used to have huge gatherings with 15+ people too for the holidays. Everyone would be there but over the years it has dwindled down which is unfortunate. Certain people arenā€™t around anymore or donā€™t get along, now itā€™s mostly my siblings and their kids which is really okay for me although Iā€™d love to see everyone else to! Now that Iā€™ve moved out of state it is especially a bit complicated to get all together. Iā€™m sad this year I donā€™t have gifts to hand out I just love to see peopleā€™s reactions and then enjoy the thought that goes into it. Iā€™m glad your kids understand the thought and bonding time over anything!

Happy Holidays Cherrybomb! People will probably always need some holiday in the depths of winter no matter what religions we have. Gift giving for Christmas is a ā€˜newā€™ thing in the last few centuries, but in age of Amazon is it still meaningful?
