So, this has recently bugged me and I thought I would share:
Do we really need toothpaste to get out teeth clean?
Everyday I try my hardest not to be taken in by advertising campaigns and the fact that it's sell sell sell 24 hours a day. However, it recently came to mind that I may have already been won over by one of the biggest advertising campaigns (read: scandle) in the history of forever.
You see, I'm not so sure that toothpaste is a necessary part of the brushing process - other than making your breath have that artificial minty fresh taste. What does it actually do?
Sure, we're told that it adds flouride and polishes and some even protect against sensitive teeth! Heck some even brag that they will remove smoker's stains. But will they? As human beings we believe this without question. And I got worried when I realised I had believed these advertising campaigns without even thinking about it for my whole life.
What I'm trying to say is - can we just brush our teeth with a toothbrush and water + it still get our teeth clean? I'm almost positive it will. Although it wouldn't get rid of that morning fresh breath that everyone loves to hate. What exactly is it about toothpaste that helps remove the grime?
For that matter, is it the same with soap? with shampoo? with washing powder? Or are these all products we are sold to make everything "smell" nice?
Could we achieve the same results from not using these products?
I guess I'm just slightly worried that the manufacturing companies have managed to convice me that I need these products; without me even realising it. I'm worried that I have been taken in by the world's biggest marketing scam ever.
It's funny what things will play on one's mind when one is sick with the flu.

In other news: I'm still sick. Yuck take these stinking germs out of my body!

One of the first things I noticed about Toshi was that he didn't use toothpaste. He told me that no one in Japan uses toothpaste, but they do scrape their tongue. Picture a metal wishbone that has some grooves on it and you scrape it down from the back of your tongue to the front - then spit. Welp it looks nasty but he said it helps bad breath.
Course by the end of the year I had him brushing with Crest and waking me up at 420 for some fun... god I'm a bad influence
Ahem...let's see....uh huh , yep , mmmm hmmmm , yep . Hmmmmm....
