In a recent journal, plasticfangs asked people to put down some lyrics they really like. I put down lyrics from the new Drive-By Truckers album, Decoration Day, that is...not even out yet. It comes out in June. A reviewer friend taped it for me, and I am DAMN WELL gonna buy it when it comes out. I

This is the chorus to the song "Outfit", which is written by guitarist Jason isbell, who peed in the toilet before me at the Iota Club. I was waiting in line for the bathroom, and he was in there. The obnoxious guy behind me in line BANGBANGBANGed on the door, causing Isbell to BANGBANGBANG back. I later explained to him that the guy behind me did it, not me; he understood and was cool to me.
The song is from a father to his son, talking about various things before giving the chorus-advice:
Don't call what you're wearing an "outfit".
Don't say that your car is "broke".
Don't worry about losing your accent;
a Southern man tells better jokes...
Have fun and don't mess with the needle.
Call home on your sister's birthday.
Don't ell 'em you're bigger than Jesus--
don't give it away....

And the second time around he amends the first stanza to be both funnier and touching:

...but words can't express how great "The Deeper In" is, the leadoff song on the album. It's acoustic, like much of the new album is, a bittersweet, gorgeous song about a couple on the run from the law, with some elegiac, stunning pedal steel work...

You got the right idea with the Paris tunnels, or "catacombs" in the parlance. There's a subculture of folks who hang out down there, occasionally having some pretty big parties and such. I think there's even a branch of the police force dedicated to patrolling them. Now that's fun!
