Name Five Underrated Songs! ...you know, songs you've never heard on the radio, or weren't released as a single, and people don't mention them hardly ever, if at all.

1) "Science-Fiction Double Feature"... you know, the first Rocky Horror soundtrack song. That is a perfect song.
2) "Blue Guitar" This is The Ventures best song, except for maybe their version of "Apache," a slow, soulful burning version which kills the ones by The Shadows and that Swedish dude. Leaves "Walk Don't Run" and "Hawaii 5-0" in the dust... and those are good ones, too.
3) "Hot Rails to Hell" I could put almost any Blue Oyster Cult song from the first three albums, ha, but this is the one I'd like to jam out on as the opening number when I finally get together my BC cover band, 12-7-7 Express to Heaven, with Bambi and Kikka on lead guitars.
4) "Journey Through the Past"- This and "Time Fades Away," the title track to the album it comes from, smoke anything off of Harvest or After the Gold Rush... it's said that Neil Young still hates this album, though, so it might not ever get re-released... I've also read on Amazon that it was mastered straight to computer in 1973 so there is no master tape. I have NO idea about that... but Neil, if you get it together to realize this is one of your BEST albums, call me; I have a relatively clean vinyl copy you can burn to WAV files.
5) "Motorway City [live]"- I got this one off of a Hawkwind rarities album in Arlington Library, so if you're in the area and want it, just put a hold on it and burn it like I did. Beats lookin for some $40 copy on eBay. (pygmy and some of you already have it from me)

Was flipping through yet another Bill James book I got in Arlington and saw the name Pete Incaviglia... PETE INCAVIGLIA... god, I LOVE to say that name. You pronounce it how it looks. in-ca-VIG-lee-ah. Best name ever. His nickname was "Inky." Even better. Inky Incaviglia... but I actually like saying "Pete Incaviglia" better. Reminds me a bit of Natalie Imbruglia. That's another great one.
Then there are the "hockey names," names that simply strike me as names that should be on a hockey scorecard. I always thought Newt Gingrich, Mo Gaffney, and Celine Dion sounded more like a starting front 3 than a far-right politician, far-left comedienne, and French-Canadian painintheass... the later is, obviously, due to the existence of Marcel Dionne, but I dunno why the former two also sound so.... hockey to me.

My copy of Mystery Train didn't function! shocked But I did pick up YET MORE library stuff. From Arlington, I got The Trial of Henry Kissinger (okay, I've been reading more Chris Hitchens columns... I know he's a bit wonky sometimes, but I can't stop!) and the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV series (which is, of course, the best version to see; they say it has deleted scenes on here, yaaay). From our system, I got Gimme Shelter and De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising. I have had a weird hanker to hear the Stones's "Oh Carol" lately and wouldn't you know it that's one of the bonuses on the DVD. You can really see the change in sixties music by comparing the original studio version of the Chuck Berry song to their Get Your Yayas Out one. The former is spry, trebly, short and fast garage-rock; the latter is loping, stoned chugging boogie all the way. I would hate to have to choose which is better. I know garage is in vogue, but Yayas is THE BALLS, kids. "Midnight Rambler" on there is quite probably the Best Thing The Stonez Eveer Did, which puts it up there on the All Time Rock-o-meter. And De La's album, well... I'd hate to have to choose between it and Paul's Boutique for Coolest Rap Album Evoar. It's too close to call.

Hey Bro---

Just wanted to say hi. My week-end starts today and nothing really planned, though my parents were SUPPOSED to be here when i got home tonight. DAMN kids...where are they? Did you go to the DC party? since i still haven't been deemed cool enough for that group, I didn't even know more than you told me about it.

I guess i am doomed to languish in SG obscurity for life---eh? Thuogh I am trying to hook up with a few people from "the community" at warped tour Tuesday. who knows..right?

My movie experience for last weekend didn't turn out quite as agressive as i thought it would. As you know i saw 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', I also managed to fit in 'The Devils Rejects'. A rather ...ummm..interesting movie. I have heard it compared to 'Natural Born Killers' , and yes I did see some simarlarities. Over all i liked it though, not loved...but liked.

Well..I hope you have a GREAT week-end. Catch you later..

LATE!!!!!! smile
