Someone's missing here....Franchise?? I uhh am clueless here. What's up??? Makes a normal journal kinda unimportant, but here goes....

Okay. I was feeling a bit odd yesterday, like I just needed to not journal. It wasn't that any "thing" happened yesterday. Perhaps I've been reading about genocide too much. Safe Area Gorazde is not a book to be met by indifference or with the possibility of detatchment.

I dunno how much more I should go on about Zappa. I might sound obsessed. You know how it is when you find out about a new band, right? Well, imagine the band has 70 albums, cuz Frank does...yeah...I spent quite a while at work lookin at Amazon descriptions, comments. I listened to Freak Out last night-- the FIRST album, from 1965-66. I think it sounds too dated. It sounds like basically any 1965 band, with some xylophone and horn parts. And after the Back from the Grave albums, I'm not impressed..so I'll probably stick to more 70s Zappa now. I have to admit, I like the 70s music vibe. Electric pianos, mellowness, all that shit...not that that's what 70s Zappa is like.

Do I have anything interesting to say today? Well.... I have one thing lying around, an ad from a publisher I got at work, for a book called Man-Made Disaster by Charles Outland. The first paragraph goes:
"On March 12, 1928 a huge dam nestled in the foothills north of Los Angeles collapsed and spread death and devastation from Newhall to the Pacific near Ventura. Some 450 lives were lost, making this disaster equivalent in its human tragedy to the great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. But the earthquake was an act of God, while the dam's collapse resulted from the actions of men."

I find it interesting that the SF Earthquake is legendary but this disaster is unknown, nationally anyway (In California, that might differ). The book's notes go on to say that the LA city government settled 3000 monetary relief claims for victims, and not a single one had to go through legal courts. Can you imagine that happening today? Never. You gotta SUE right, who do I SUE??!?
Oh also, that dam burst happened on my b-day. I know some celeb Mar 12 b-days, but the only other event I know of is the foundation of the Girl Scouts. And ironically, I was never a Girl Scout...
