So I got Franchise's second Morphine package today. CDs that is. Nothing drug-related with Franchise, no... so I have it on MusicMatch right now. Sounds very good for a little hand-held recorder; as I told him earlier, no more bass-heavy fidelity than standing in an average club show.

I saw Adaptation. I was skeptical of it for two reasons. First, I found Being John Malkovich a lil cutesy-smug in tone. Secondly, I saw a preview long ago and thought it made it look very "Hollywood movie about Hollywood movie" -like.
I was surprised. It was a thought-provoking movie, about life in general as well as its characters. I can see why people were impressed by Chris Cooper's performance. I found the relationships to have genuine emotional impact as well.
I want to explain it without spoilers-- my only misgiving was some of how it ended. I really enjoyed the first 4/5 or so. The last parts weren't BAD, they just didn't go quite how....I was gonna say "How I thought they should go" but I had no freakin idea how it would go. It twists quite a lot, in unexpected ways... and I was expecting a certain twist, I was like "Oh it'll be so corny if such-n-such happens" but that thing never happened, but they way it did end up going, which was quite unexpected, seemed a bit odd to me. Not odd like psychedelic but odd like "OH...so that's how that goes...hmmm....odd".
I didn't like it as much as mtlqueen maybe, who saw it...four times, queen? But it's definitely worth a trip to the theater, and could end up in my 2003 favorites, as I ...don't get to many theater films nowadays. So many old ones to rent. But beyond that if you go to lots of Hollywood movies this one is a different animal from the same-old stuff. So I thank mtlqueen and my friend Don for pushing me out to see it.

sounds like - The Huck-a-bucks. Now I'm guessing most people outside of DC, you've never heard gogo music. When I say "gogo music" you might have a picture of a girl in tall boots dancing on Hullaballoo, but no there's a type of rap music called gogo in DC that is...well, you can go to the Huck-a-bucks sound clips on Amazon, particularly the live stuff, and that's about all I can say... it's just really trashy, cheapo sounding rap music with a certain beat...these are compliments by the way. It is SO punk rock to me that the Huck-a-bucks, the Junkyard Band, all these gogo bands get played ON THE RADIO here in DC.
Now you might notice some of the songs sound...kinda same-y. They have pretty similar beats...but that's where our collective lyrical mayhem, some might say perversity, would pay off. Plus we'd have Col. Bruce on the lyrics, singing , guitar, weve gotta killer horn section and MisterSatan rockin that plastic. Can you imagine a rap group with Kikka, toaster, and Emily being BORING!?!? Thank you, I rest my case.
But please do listen to those Huck-a-bucks clips. That's indigenous DC music, that's gogo.
