I've got a bunch of snippets to get to, but first thing's weird and sad-- a cousin of my ex-girlfriend was murdered in Honduras, apparently in a carjacking. What a waste, to kill someone for a car. They're parked EVERYWHERE if you wanna just steal one, why go and murder someone??? I never met her, but it's disheartening anyway.

I don't have that zine after all, the one where I did the languages question already...the langauges question that nobody seems to wanna answer...it could just be it's the weekend and people are out doing stuff...?

I didn't read Rushdie, or Maeve Binchy either. I did laundry, and helped my parents with some minimal yardwork. I was glad to do something for my mom, as I had thrown a mini-tantrum in front of her...I didn't yell at her or anything, I was just acting all poor-me cuz I had some dumb crap happen (I wanted her to get a new tire for me at her Sam's Club but didn't have the paperwork on me; my car key broke in the trunk lock; I had a big headache; probably some other piddly stuff) and was glad to get over it and do something productive.

I missed CCDC because I misread something wreent wrote ages ago; I thought she said we had to know someone she knew to get in, like physyically be in the same neighborhood, which it turns out was wrong. Better communication on my part would've helped. I can't help but wonder though-- would I be boring as shit at SG parties? I've been boring as shit at most parties. Then again, they have been likewise to me. Likewise meaning shit. I assumed you were following my repetitive vulgarity. I'm sure I could at least have a better time at a SG party than a regular one. Although I am quite socially inept. Thank you.

I saw River And Tides yesterday. Did you know some theaters charge $9 for movies? Well, I go to matinees by myself so I didn't know, but should've realized. Rivers And Tides is a documentary, slow in pace, thougtful in mood, and wonderful in dreaminess, about Scottish artist Andy Goldsworthy, who makes found art in the most literal sense. He goes to natural locations and crafts things outta rock, sticks, leaves, ice, mud, whatever's there. There's very little planning, although you see over the course of the film his recurring themes (snake patters; gradation of color; pinecone-like stone structures). Some of the art falls apart in construction. Some of it lasts a couple hours, before high tides and wind/rain hit. Some of it stands to be grown over by other natural things like savannah-grass...but the point isn't in dragging the results off to some museum. The art comes from nature, and it's returned to nature by nature itself.

I didn't get my music from Franchise yet, sadly, but I did get my Fantagraphics order. So nice to get comic books, although they read through so fast. I was quite surprised by the last two Penny Century issues; turns out Maggie Chascarillo was married...and it wasn't to me?? Hmmm. And the other issue had an extended symbolic-dream sequence in which Mags was ...a marathon runner?? I got a Kaz comic collection, but surprisingly it wasn't as funny as he usually is inthe paper each week. I suppose it's a good thing if he's in the process of improving. I got a Minimum Wage collection; I had a freebie MW issue from Fantagraphics from before, now I'll get to read much more. Lastly, MEATCAKE, yay, got some mo Dame Darcy. Strega Pez is my favorite; I mean, a character who communicates via her words coming out of her throat on big, bloody Pez tablets...what can I say? I wonder what flavor they are?

dream band - Hawaiian Snowstorm
MisterSatan - vocals, accordion
coldenginelogic - guitar, sampling
myself - effects, computers
braveliltoaster - flute with electronics, vocals, effects
Sorcha - harmonium, pipe organ
Telesis - bowed guitar, fx
an occasional drum machine
sounds like - I was thinking of something totally new, actually. Reference points would be Mum, Mogwai, Godspeed, Tom Waits, the soundtracks to Carnival of Souls and Eraserhead, Kendra Smith's Guild of Temporal Adventurers, German music, foreign music and sounds...but preferably it'd end up sounding just like nothing else.

A new dream band...? Your imagination is running overtime, my friend! (Which of course is always the best way for it to be, as far as I'm concerned).
It's funny that you mention the "boring at a party" worry. I'm supposed to be going to the Dinner & A Movie night in LA , and I'm scared to death for some reason! What if I can't talk to people? What if everyone else gets along really well, but I just sit there and not say anything, and no one likes me??? (I tend to get a bit Charlie Kaufman-like at times...it was hard watching Adaptation because of that...) Anyhoo, I totally understand your concern, but trust me, Cheech; you are far too intelligent, and have way too much to say to be boring. Granted you might not be swinging from the chandeleres (or maybe you are...you tell me), but anyone who conversed with you would fnd themselves in a great conversation, I'm sure of it. Remember that!
DUDE! YOU READ COMICS??? Like Penny Century? Man, yer cool level is flying right off the meter! Seriously though, ain't the Hernandez Bros. geniuses? Ah, me love those bastards....I wanna get a Love & Rockets tattoo, but I don't know what yet...
