I get "this page cannot be found" half the times I hit "preferences". Anybody else having this prob?
Okay, so I was asking-- If you could suddenly, magically speak five languages, which would you choose and why?
I chose these:
Spanish - I've studied it, actually...and forgotten all of it. I took a pre-school class of Spanish in 6th grade, took regular classes in jr high, high and college...you think I'd remember more, but then how much analytic geometry do I remember? I would like to know it cuz 1) it's in many countries, 2) many people speak it here, 3) come on, Latinas are hot. You know it. And I don't mean J-Lo I'm talking about reeeal Latinas with style...
Japanese - I don't even like anime (people with saucer eyes, dot noses and mouths and pentagonal heads? Yuck. Not my idea of cute.) but Japan is still a very interesting country, seems weird-good, as does...
Icelandic - for the Bjorks of the world.
Russian - Oddly enough, toaster just raised the question of "what's the sexiest accent?" and Opahl said Russian, which is a good answer, although Irish, British (whichever kind), Spanish, they're all good ones. Once again, country seems interesting and there are lots of Russians, plus a language-inclusive hangover in East Europe.
Hindi - I need to research this more, actually, but I think the language is fairly well-known in the Bangladesh/India/Pakistan area....thing is, I would like to know it to speak to the Bangla people at work, and Bangla is actually the primary language in Bangladesh...sooo I dunno if they'd even know Hindi, but there's at least one Indian at work too. If I'd paid closer attention to this one Rushdie essay I read lately, I'd be more in tune here. I'll reread it later.
Some of the ones I passed on:
French - Yeah, I love French movies, but it's more fun to me to watch em with subtitles.
Polish - So I could chat to Kikka, naturally.
Italian- More good movies, more passionate people. Good food too, with lots of paisans in employ.
Amharic - There's a large local Ethiopian population, I mean like RIGHT in my building and the surrounding couple of miles.
Chinese - Decidedly LESS fun-looking country than Japan, or Korea, but still a crapload of speakers of the language, a billion or more...
Farsi - In case I hang out with any Iranians...
Scottish Gaelic - Haha, my NATIVE language, ya wee bampot geordie bastarn.
So keep letting me know your preferences... and by tomorrow I'll have read the Rushdie thing and reread my previous zine answers...

I'm all over Yo La Tengo-- the only way I'd miss it would be if I was out of town, but the roadtrip seems less and less likely the longer I go without planning it.
