Okay, bit of a boring day for you, the journal reader, maybe but I was FREE, I was OFF OF WORK, SOOO FREEE, so I'M happy, anyway. biggrin

This is what I did:
1) Still trying to get my car stereo all straightened out, in the shop for the second day in a row. It shorted out,
because of a prob in the lighter ($100) which I will have to make a third trip to get, and I decided to go ahead and replace the stereo since it's 10 years old and this shorting-out thing worries me ($250) since it happened twice this week, and I went ahead and replaced the retracting antenna ($150). I suppose I coulda gotten a manual one cheaper, but the point is it was f'ed up from rust from the rain, cuz Hondas let rain and gunk in various cracks, trunk slots, hood slots, etc.

I made CDs for Franchise this evening. One of the excellent Drive-By Truckers album, Southern Rock Opera, one of American bands, one of UK bands. And I have a promo EP CD that I don't need anymore too, will throw that in.

I got some things from Amazon, ordered long ago...I think the order was held up by a 9353 CD, but I can't complain as it's OUT OF PRINT, miracle that I got it at all. They are a local band of my youth, 80s post-punk, post-Zappa (so the reviews said. I'm just learning about Frank). I also got an anti-capitalist Tintin book, made a few years back by...well, obviously not Herge, but some people who wanted to depict Tintin and Capt Haddock as angry labor supporters. Weird seeing Tintin speaking Cockney, too....and I got Pulp's His N Hers and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band.

I finished Jennifer Government by Max Barry. I liked it. It's sometimes obvious, and it's very novel-y, fulll of coincidences (in fact, I don't think there's a character in the book who doesn't run into each other character in some city or country they don't belong in normally). It's heavy-handed anti-consumerist but there are side shots at self-appointed activists and people who use anger at businesses as an excuse to do dumb, illegal things. I picture Linda Fiorentino as JG in the movie version. Something about Linda screams "ass-kicking cop", although I don't know if I've even seen a film of hers all the way through. I think Peter Krause should play John Nike; he has that smarmy creepy slimeball thing going on, at least on that Sports Night show.

Oh, and lastly I was looking at my Natural Resource Defense Council magazine; that's one of my two environmental charities. They have the mag online, and it tells you which Republicans are "green" and which ones are mean to the environment. And they're depicted as wacky cartoon dogs...who to vote for, who to vote against, hmmm....
