Well, thanks everybody. That was a really fun birthday, hanging around here for hours. Dunno if it was the longest I've spent on here, but it felt like it!
The rest of the day was ehh okay. Had birthday dinner with my dad and bro, but dad was kinda ...not jerky, but I dunno... a bit nudgey. And when I went to the Galaxy Hut, 1) there was a sign on the door that said, "Joe Jack cancelled
"(yeah, it had the sad face on the sign) and 2) it was sick overcrowded in there. I know it's a small place, but beore it had been merely crowded. Last night, it was like 200 people in a closet... I told someone I hadn't seen it like that, and he replied that it's like that all the time now. Ehh. I was hoping it would still be a hang-out for me once in a while... now, I'm not sure. I remember hanging out at the bar reading Moby-Dick once... I don't think I coulda fit a book in the bar with me last night; maybe enough room for a pamphlet.
You know, also- I'm not so bummed about my age. I dunno if anyone thought I was, or if that had been an issue lately. Nah. It's just, in my mind, one of the more significant numbers in a while. 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 65 are bigger... it just feels weird being on the other side of 35... haha, by a day.
I am starting to feel better mentally, overall. I dunno if I... we want to go into my various supposed problems. I'm willing to say maybe it was partially seasonal. It's certainly more sunny lately. Anyway, no hubris like- I am feeling grrrreat every day, but I think a lot of my bum-out lately was not seeing people and I know I'm seeing SG folks in person a lot more now than Dec.- Feb., not to mention my shitty Feb. at work.
N-E-way.... the reason I was saying I might not be around much is this, and I've told some folks. Wanna leave my job, thinking of moving, and having a tiny apt. taking up my $$$ with no real payoff (I don't dooo anything in this apartment; it's no good for get-togethers), all lead me to think maybe I should move in with my folks for a while. Save some $$ and change my life around a bit in the next year. I don't want to be in my current job in a year; not rewarding enough, sometimes very annoying, not going the way I envisioned. It's not my coworkers, but the public and the general system (the local government) is inefficient, chintzy, so on.
So, I thought I might need to be on SG less because I was at my parents. Nude pics? Well yeah, but I can always disable pics; more like I'm not sure what my mom or (nosey) brother would make of it. Ultimately, I decided this:
I don't care much. I'm 35, and yeah, I'm an SG member. I don't advertize it, but I don't wanna hide it either. I'm old enough that I think everyone can handle it, or else... tough.
I will have some adjustments to iron out before I'm on here hours and hours again, through April, maybe May. First of all, my bro is always on the compy over there. Secondly, the compy sucks. It's old, low-memory, and been screwed up by various things family members might've done to it. Now, I might have someone in my IT shape it up. I might just get another phone-line put in for my PC. After all, my PC will pretty much be my stereo in my room. I'll figure that out soon. I don't wanna step on anybody's toes, but I do wanna stay on here as much as I can, and I don't think anything I'm thinking is gonna impede on anyone. Hell, upgrading the PC will definitely help, and I'd pay the phone thing.
I am not into the living-off-parents thing, btw. My rent offers have been rebuffed. I don't want my mom cooking for me; I have a fine assortment of frozen and processed foods that I draw from... and some uhh actual nice foods. I like to not eat. I didn't really have lunch yesterday or today (I don't have breakfast much); I like not eating, especially the way my esophagus is (I use Prevacid).
Anyway... just figured I'd write about myself, for once. I was thinking of writing about the BookTV I saw today... well, it had Malcolm Gladwell (he looks sorta like Malcolm McLaren and Yahoo Serious, with big fuzzy hair), the author of Blink which talks about reaction time and mind capabilities under stress and sped-up situations. Naturally, he talked about cops, and he got into the Diallo case. He was saying maybe racism was involved, but mostly it was a case of a closed-in-area, dark, bad neighborhood, and the cops being sped into response... he also pointed out that police departments are moving more to solo-cop patrols, because most cases with abuse or excessive force stem from rash responses of group behavior. He gave the example that if a cop is alone, they won't rush into a place firing; they'll call for back-up.
I was wondering how the audience would react to this white guy saying overt racism was maybe not a factor in the Diallo shooting... then someone asked how Gladwell got into writing. He said his parents had written books. His dad wrote super-obscure mathematics work. His mom had written a memoir about Jamaica... she's from Jamaica. And black. Oops! So much for my assumption about "white guy" Gladwell. He went on to mention that he used to cut his hair short and never got pulled over by cops, but now that he has the fluffy-Garfunkel-fro he gets speeding tickets all the time. Huh. He said on some level it was nice after years of maybe looking like a "dork" that now he was considered a "badass," but he obviously didn't like the sudden ticket increase. :^/

Sounds like a good plan to move in w/ the folks for awhile. Keep 'em off the puter so you can still frequent SG and TMI! We can't have you gone too long.
Moby Dick at the bar??? You crack me up.
