I'm a rebel today, cuz I'm spending less than 3 hours on Suicide Girls! Yeah, I have to start satisfying my odd movie desires...if I can't satisfy any other desires, I might as well hit the odd movies.
Tonight's odd movie was the Hong Kong cop movie The Big Heat, dir. by Tsui Hark. Hark is the Hong Kong director who isn't John Woo. It was a good-ass film. The main guy reminded me of some white guy, very clean-cut, but I couldn't figure out whom. The goofy rookie cop also reminded me of someone white. I wanna say Scott Baio, but it's totally NOT Scott Baio. He also looked like a YOOOUUNG Jackie Chan. My fave cop was Kam; he was just kicking ass, and sorta looked like Dee Dee Ramone.
The plot -- The dirty drug dealers kill the main guy's old partner, Skinny Tse. Skinny Tse meats quite the gruesome ending, as do several folks in this movie. So the bad guys kill Skinny Tse eight ways to Sunday, and the good guy cop, who's having paralysis problems in his gun hand and was gonna retire, has to go SETTLE THE SCORE! His partners include the goofy rookie, Kam, and the mustachioed grizzled veteran.
If WEIRD is what you want, you're still better off with Dead Or Alive, the Japanese (I think) flick from 1999. That movie is INSANE, but has lulls. This one is a very fast-paced, solid cop film with some over-the-top killings to Woo you out. As a complete film, The Big Heat is one of the better Hong Kongers. I still say Hard Boiled is #1, but this one beats some Woo.
Hey, it's not too late to ask yourselves questions in the journal. ASK ASK ASK, and ANSWER ANSWER ANSWER.
