I was just writing to anonymouse4Kerry about my Veruca Salt bumper sticker, and it reminded me of another song with a funny lyrical subject-- "#1 Blind." Yes, before Shirley Manson would die for you, Nina Gordon was professing her love of... Levellor-brand window blinds:

Levellor, which of us is blind?
Levellor, left - me - in - the dark
Levellor, I - can - see - no-thing - but you;
is it mor-or-ning?

Then there's good old Ian Dury, my man... I suppose his funniest lyrics are those (subtitled "A True Story") in "Razzle In My Pocket," about when he got cocky about stealing porno as a youth... I know the lyrics by heart (I'm sure I mentioned this before here), since the song has a funny rhyme scheme:

ABBABBA CDDCDDC ...and so on

so you know that "nick" will be followed two lines later by "quick" followed two lines later by "pick," and you can easily fill in the blanks from there... provided you listen to the song a lot (and I have).

Uhhh. What else? I came home a bit early from work. I was afraid I'd have explosive diarrhea again since I felt kinda woobly in the guts, but I didn't have explosive diarrhea after all, like that time I ate that whole bag of sugar-free Reese's and got explosive diarrhea.

Okay, okay... you want something with more intellectual fervor than poo-poo comments in boldface. Well... I've been reading about Che Guevarra. I thought maybe I'd found a real political hero, but had my doubts since... well... Cuba doesn't really have the reputation of a political paradise.... and I seem to be seeing some references in this bio I'm reading to Che not stopping some quite unnecessary executions after they took over Cuba... which isn't really heroic. I dunno. I suppose I should keep reading these books for some history and insights (since I have three checked out) but... if someone executes bunches of folks, then the heroic/humanitarian speeches thing kinda doesn't have much shine to it. Not much more than... explosive diarrhea, say.... oh , come on! I didn't boldface it!... ahh, well, nuts! I still say I'm intellectual, goddamn it...

Question of the Dayssss

What's your favorite song specifically about a brand of product?

I like "#1 Blind," and probably the best non-Greatest Hits album song by Steve Miller is "Mercury Blues." Some that I don't count are Negativland songs about Pepsi and Nesbitt's Lime Soda (cuz I don't think they're being sincere)(although they are good songs) and songs like "Little Red Corvette" that are more about fucking a girl than an actual car or such. Also, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is not about deodorant, and Debbie Gibson's "Electric Youth" was a case where product followed song creation...

that makes me very sad that I didn't see that. I'm gonna have to ask her about that.
