I spent last night in Richmond. The state capital! It was a low-key evening, since 1) less Summer traffic than in preceding weeks, 2) NoControl and I ate at Waffle house, 3) we were going to play pool with Isadora and infornography, but due to the strange, lunar-landscape-like desolation of the pool hall, they got carded for the first time in four trips there. (It's sad that, even as empty as the poolroom was, someone still played Nickelback on the jukebox... or is the jukebox posessed??)
So we ended up sitting around NoControl's swank non-hippie-but-groovy pad, which is frankly fun enough for me; I don't need a whole circus to keep me happy (although it'd be a bonus to sit on a clown's lap once in while), jumping through planning and travelling hoops to make fun when you can just rendezvous with three of VA's koolest, so I say the night was - FUNN.

Another couple of points about the movie Festival Express before I move on from Friday's Journal:
the most insufferable hippie aspect of the film-- the movie does kick off with a certain well-worn 'Dead song. At the time, I thought, "How cliche"... but I suppose when you add the facts that 1) it is the 'Dead's most famous song, 2) it was recorded the same year that the movie was filmed, 3) it deals with trains, you could argue that I have no room to complain.
the least insufferable hippie aspect of the film-- much of the music is fast and energetic in the film, I'd say a good 2/3 or more, despite the amount of booze, pot, and/or psychs circulating on the train. Friday, I forgot to mention the Flying Burrito Brothers's song "Lazy Day"- like the performances of the Band and Janis, they bolt right out of the gate on it.
Also, Buddy Guy's band aren't hippies.
