Some of you (or none) might be wondering-- I've been on SG last night, and this afternoon, so why no mention of how awesome the Cashore Marionettes show was yesterday.
Well, I'll tell ya why.
It was cancelled. It was cancelled due to lack of interest. Guess how many people bought advanced tickets.... guess.
One.... that would be me. I was the only person in a town of some 200,000 people to order a ticket.
The manager explained it to me-- the Cashore company got $3000 for the show, half of it already paid in advance... so obviously my ticket, not being a $2000 one, wasn't gonna do it alone. So they had to cancel. People were arriving to buy tickets the day of the show, as I was there talking to her, with their kids; the signs and website clearly said it wasn't for little kids... but whatever, at least some other humans were showing up.
Well, I've always said I'm outside the mainstream of society... I guess this just proves it.
The manager was very nice, and was apologizing to me, and I looked at her and said, "I'm not disappointed with you. I'm disappointed with the people in this town." Granted, the Old Town Theater hasn't been re-opened that long, and they obviously need to do more advertising in the DC papers... but I think the show's dreadful sales, with posters clearly advertising it on King Street, helps prove Alexandrians kinda sugk ass.
The one bit of good news is, being very apologetic, the manager was giving out movie passes, and the theater (which has been showing decent old movies like Young Frankenstein and Hitchcock stuff) is going to run Super-Size Me and Coffee and Cigarettes soon, so I can watch one of 'em again for free... also, she said they'd try to get Cashore back again next year, when the theater is more established in town/ DC.
I guess this will be my last mention for a while that you can Google up images of how cool the dolls look online...
