Stuff that really moves me:
1) the book Songs of the Gorilla Nation by Dawn Prince-Hughes. A woman with Asperger's Syndrome chronicles her life, primarily the harshness of a life for someone not in tuned with everyday human social processes. She finds that gorillas in the zoo have a much more peaceful life, without hidden/ negative emotional agendas or tricks and at a more reasonable pace than modern human life. Most touching book I've read since Safe Area: Gorazde, and just as informative (regarding gorillas, autism, and humans).
2) The stage patter at the end of the Guided by Voices DVD, Watch Me Jumpstart:
This is a tale of... uhh, southwestern Ohio.....
you should come and see us some time...
you should come and see us some time and hang out in our barrr.. with us...
you know?
eat some Hoagie's pizza...and drink quarts of beer.....
...and we're all happy to be here
It's touching to me cuz I think he means it. It's said by someone in the DVD that Bob hates to tour because he misses Dayton... he misses Dayton! That is so sweet. And Jim Greer says at one point that Bob's mind just isn't linear, that "He doesn't go from point A to point B he goes from A to... point Pluto." It seems reflected in his artwork and lyrics, and Dawn's memoirs of mental conversation-abstraction reminds me of him, at times.

For people with ADD, it can be very seductive to think you can never belong. The pain is like having someone keeping to tell you that you can never succeed. Defeat it. You can.
