I never listed my favorite 2003 movies... I realized this morning that I find it easy enough to rank one person's art (like in the Tom Waits thread) but it's hard for me to rank across artists, styles, and things with different moods and purposes... well, here are some movies I liked in a loose list:
Working With Time: Andy Goldsworthy - great documentary about an artist who works in natural materials, out in the open (woods, rivers, beaches)
In America - a quite beautiful movie... this sounds like a pretty delicate description, but the movie has its gritty side.
Lost In Translation - there were things I'd like to change in it, but not a lot
The Station Agent - a good, purely character-driven story
Pirates of the Caribbean - you know this one
The School of Rock - fun
Old School - more school, more fun (although they weren't actually in school)
Owning Mahowny - as critics say, follows a typical gamblers-movie arc, but watching Philip Hoffman and John Hurt is a delight
Laurel Canyon - pretty good
A Mighty Wind - more from that crew; the bit players seem to get the best jokes this time out

I was never into sports. Being picked last never actually bothered me.
