My opinions on A Slow Century, aka The Slow Century, award-winning DVD by Pavement the Rock Band:

Five Things I Don't Like
1. The band commentary on the videos really peters out at the end; they have so little to say about most of them, mostly giggling, sitting quietly, or leaving the room to get beers.
2. Most of the videos are pretty lame. The best ones are "Shady Lane," "Stereo," and especially "Painted Soldiers."
3. It's hard to tell when they're being sincere in their commentary. Malkmus dismisses "Major Leagues" with a comment along the lines of, "Well the album cost so much to make, I figured I should put a hit single on it," or some such absurd put-down of one of the best songs of the '90s.
4. One of the cameramen from the Seattle show is a perv; dude, stop fixating on the front-row girls during "Harness Your Hopes"!
5. Not enough footage of Bob Nastanovich at horse races.

Five Things I Like
1. The bizarre concert clip where the K-Rock DJ gets into a serious verbal fight with the audience while introducing the band! He claims K-Rock "owns" them, has taken their money (?), and that K-Rock found out about Pavement before anyone in the audience.
2. The better videos, as listed above, plus "Range Life" is pretty good (although the censoring of the "fuck" in it was really unnecessary, as the average age of the DVD-buyer is likely above 30).
3. The lovely 50-second intro cartoon on the first disc; it is so pretty, which uses a loop of the intro to "Spit on a Stranger" just like that which used to be on their (defunct) website. It's such a sweet thing, makes me wanna cry.
4. Seeing the West Virginia Lollapalooza Spiral-Stairs-Mooning Incident, and not just the mooning (you don't really see his ass, sadly, as he's filmed from the side) but the events leading up to it (which was the crowd throwing dirt at them). Spiral rocks!
5. The great London concert footage on the second disc. The Seattle stuff is good too, but the London stuff, just a little better.

question - Why does Malkmus have such a hard time remembering lyrics to "The Killing Moon"? Seriously, I've known them forfuckingever, and I don't go around playing the song live.

Haven't seen it, mandinga. I can't give you any kind of feedback whatsoever. Maybe some of the Lou Reed Metal Machine Music kind, but that's it really. My overall knowledge of Pavement and Malkmus is pretty elementary at best. They seem pretty groovy, though. Sorry I didn't respond earlier.
