Funny - I was using my last couple of hours at work to do some really important work-- which is to say, looking up avant-garde jazz CDs on Amazon... and what did I stumble upon? A suggested buying list by one Dusty J. Hill. Hmmm.
How much free jazz have I not heard? Apparently, quite a lot. AMM is a name I've seen but never knew who/ what/ where they were. Didn't know Sonny freakin' Sharrock played on Pharoah's Tauhid, or I'd own it already. Didn't know Lennie Tristano was playing avant stuff in like 1949. Didn't know about Sam Rivers Live or Art Ensemble's Bap-tizum. Or, for that matter, that there was a band Cynic that supposedly mixes jazz, very heavy metal, and Yes-type prog-rock. Wow. Well, I might not like all of these records, but I'd like to at least hear them all, from the descriptions... oh yeah, Amazon has sound clips. Well, that's cool, I can check out some after I finish this CD of Coltrane/Shepp at Newport.
Was looking at a book on Fidel Castro at work. It's called Castro's Final Hour, by Andrew Oppenheimer, and it was written in 1992 about the "coming downfall" of Castro. Hmmm. Well, it has a pic of Fidels' daughter, Alina Castro, in it, She's pretty hot. It's only a black and white pic, but she has really dark eyes, very dark lipstick, and this wet-look hair hanging all over her face. I'd say she was goth-lookin', but I guess... she's just Cuban. Just thought I'd mentionit since, well, the book's "political prophecy" side is obviously crap, but hey, Mr. Castro has a lovely daughter.

Uh-oh...here we go with esoteric avant-garde free jazz references. I'll just be over here in the corner nursing my Martini and listening to The Clash. I'll check back in a while. Carry on...

Castro interests me. Despite his poor human rights record, I have a deep admiration for many of his achievements. I wonder what will happen when he eventually goes?
