Updating is tough when you're actually out doing things. Plus you can't summarize the greatness of sitting around getting wrecked with really cool folks- it just IS and is great and that's how bars get away with charging you $5-12 for drinks, although in these instances I wasn't in bars.
Tuesday, I saw Portland Jazz Jams and it was my favorite yet, because 1) there were lots more horns, 2) they played some really ripping stuff. Someone early on (don't wanna name names) was having trouble keepin tempo (on slower things, oddly enough; I think it was the odd time patterns), but when Mr. Bug and the 4 other horn guys arrived (Cal, Russell, Farnell, and Shoehorn) the place REALLY blew open... in addition to the 2 great keyboardists, Bug's friend on drums (looks like Keith Moon, and as energized), Dan on bass, good guitarists... it was just the best.
Here's Farnell (green shirt) playing while Russell (red hat) stands to the side w/ flugelhorn. Between Russell and the featured guest, Rob Birdwell, a lot o flugel was horned.
Wednesday, I helped Mikael n Les move. I learned that the most difficult things to carry aren't the heaviest, but actually 1) the hardest-to-grip things in conjunction with 2) lots of stairs. I'm now of the opinion that EVERYTHING should be built with handles on each end. Later, we played an odd farming game of Les's, a card game based on "trading pits" of farmers called Pit.
I would not have won that game if we played for a trillion years. I wasn't really in the proper clarity for it, but that was hardly a factor.
Good funn with Mikael's bandmate, Mr. Forrest, and SG Ryan is my new favorite person on Earth!
Thursday, I did my volunteer job, which went great. Last night was another big barbecuefunn night, and I had a great time although had less great time than Wednesday, if you catch my meaning- I tired to limit my great timeness so as to drive home conscious. I mean, seriously. I had the proper portion of 4/20 great time.
Now then- back to March 26th. PENN-JERSEY ROLLERDERBY. One of my problems since lasik surgery has been vision in darkish rooms, and it seems my disposable camera has similar problems. I found it pretty dark in the Beerfest hall last week too, but the roller-rink in Jersey was more so. Plus, disposable cameras are shit, and I need an actual working camera with features someday... most of my pics were unusably dark, but anyway, here's some pics of the Sadistic Sweethearts/ Fallen Angels match:
You can see from the foreground head-hair that the camera flash worked for about 2 feet... so my only usable shots were those of the skaters within 30 feet.
Here's the closest I came to a good shot of Gadget applying elbows to an Angel.
...to properly block, of course, you have to get up speed.
Here's G in a bit o traffic while Irish Roller (9) is jammin.
I said to G's dad, "Can I get a picture?" G's dad started to pose. I said, "Uhh, I meant of her n me," but I think this one came out well, too.
I was worried this one was less dignified, so we did a 2nd...
Now that's dignified.
Bystanders came from beyond The Looking-Glass to see the derby.
