I had a day of biking, petting dogs and cats, and IMing vaj... how great is that?
I was looking at a video tape of stuff I taped back in the late-1980s. I forgot how fun it was to watch Letterman, back when his show was a pretty cheap lil outfit (like, say, Conan OBrien) and Harvey Pekar would come on and bait him relentlessly. At the point that I started taping this one show, David has been delaying introducing Harvey and finally Harvey just strolls out without any music, tersely chatting to Dave off-mike. Dave asks him something about a silly skit (a skit-demonstration involving door-smashing) and Harvey goes:
"Man, I....this is...man, what do you expect me to do with this show, man?? I hope you don't blame me for it...it's so screwed-up...it's such a waste..."
and that's how the interview starts!
Harvey: "I got my cholesterol down...you know, I've been dieting...I have an iron will, David..."
David: "Yeah?...you know...I have the strength of ten men..."
Harvey: [long pause]"....nnh....what in the hell dya think I care, Dave??"

I have been asking people what movies they've seen lately all weekend to get some idea what maybe I'm missing in the theater...but people haven't seen much more than me, it seems. A few short comments on Frida by an old friend's brother have pretty much been it, aside from the couple of journal posts. It's just hard for me to believe that Ang Lee, director of The Ice Storm, has made The Hulk...that is just a mindscrew of hugely disappointing proportions.

I'm afraid I have a sorta boring journal today...well, I don't think many of you have read American Splendor, Harvey's comic, let alone seen his 15-years-ago appearances on Letterman....I guess that was a recent movie, the movie version of Am Splendor with Paul Giamatti...uh, my stomach hurts, and y'all prob ain't following me...so I'll just leave now
...well, I hope to go out to Fort Reno, if I can figure where that is, maybe I'll see one or two of you there at the Bob Mould show....?

6/23/03-- Maybe in retrospect this was a really KICKASS journal after all! Maybe not, but...ain't it fun to revise old journal entries? Wonder how many folks will get to see June 22nd The Special Edition.

The best way to get to the Fort is to take the Red Line to the Tenleytown stop and follow the first group of hipsters you see. I'll probably be there. If you're driving... umm... it's up on Connecticut... or was it Wisconsin? Look for the big radio towers.
your welcome on the thoughts I posted....over a week ago.
I didn't have anything exciting happen either. But I was fine without SG.
