Okay...put yourself back in time FIFTEEN YEARS. Yes, fifteen WHOLE YEARS! I know it's hard to believe how different things were:

1. We were ruled by President George Bush,

2. we were about to finally DEFEAT Saddam Hussein, and stabilize the mid-east!

3. the American economy was turning south,

4. the vice-president was a scary guy....

...and speaking of him, let's remember Dan Quayle, via the book The Dan Quayle Quiz Book by Jeremy Solomon and Ken Brady, a book so important that underground rock mag Forced Exposure (home of Sonic Youth, Chain Gang, Lydia Lunch, Big Black, the Meatmen, Spacemen 3, etcetc) reviewed it, and I always wanted a copy, and I found one TODAY in the used book sale.
The quiz question that was in the Forced Ex review is the following one:

During the 1988 campaign, how did Quayle explain his statement that "rural Americans are real Americans"?

A. "Rural Americans are real Americans. Theres no doubt about that. You can't always be sure with other Americans. Not all of them are real."

B. "I'm a rural, and I'm an American. That's what makes me real. See?"
