Some more of that art-for-it's-own-sake minimalism [the concept, not the SG member] that makes Cherry wanna

...but I understand you want more than that, going into other folks' journals. You want the action, the drama, the comedy, the tears, or at least something to comment about. So here are some questions you can answer some of, or none of:
1. What's the silliest thing you've done for the sake of being "cool" (or fitting "in")?
2. What's the worst TV show ever (besides reality TV shows and talk/tabloid shows)?
3. What's the worst book you've read?
4. How is your music collection arranged?
5. Do your politics/sociological outlook converge or diverge from those of your parents? Do you have some/any idea why?

Okay, well I should answer my own questions...

1. I think the dumbest thing I did to be cool was grow my hair long. That wouldn't have been so bad in itself, but I tried to have a hairdresser touch it up and she totally fucked it up, so I had to trim up what she had done when I got home. It was a mess.
Dumbest thing I did to fit in is co-ostracize people in grade school. I did not LEAD the ostracism of loser kids, but I did participate, my only excuse being I was 6-11 years old at those times. But I was never really in a position to ostracize anyone after that, so I learned.

2. The worst TV show nowadays, to me, is one I cannot name because one of my SG friends not only likes it but started a thread about it so I don't wanna hurt that person's feelings...but that wasn't the question anyway; it was the worst show of all time besides tabloid and reality shows. So I'll say Saved by the Bell.

3. I screwed up-- I meant to ask "what is the worst book you ever read to the very end?" I dunno why I screwed that up; of course, we all have books we read 30 pages of til we just couldn't stand any more (note- one of those books, for me, is The Catcher in the Rye). I was trying to get into the motive of why you all read these books to the very end, that was the whole point of the question, and I blew it.
I hadn't even formulated my own answer when I asked...but now I know. It's Jump by Mike Lupica. Mike Lupica is a sportswriter. A couple other bad books I read to the end were a couple of mysteries by Martina Navratilova, the tennis player. (I used to read virtually anything tennis-related, as earlier in life I had read virtually anything baseball-related.)
Mike and Martina are smart people. What had me read their books to the end was their savvy about what they were writing about, the sports world from the point of view of intelligent members of it. What made the books bad was the fact that neither is a great WRITER, and the dialogue was pretty TV-like and the characters were pretty flat. All three books being mysteries in form, they relied on goofy/dumb stunts and surprises, too.

4. My music was easily arranged alphabettically and chronologically when it was all vinyl/cassette. Now that my CDs have outgrown my stereo cabinet, and I in fact do not USE my stereo anymore but only my computer and car-player, and since I burn massive amounts of mix CDs too, it's all in a big goddamn pile right in front of me here.

5. My mom is a strange mix of liberal and conservative since she grew up in rural VA but does things like watch lots of Oprah. She told me she likes Lieberman; ouch. My dad rails pretty frequently against Bush and Cheney nowadays, I'm glad to say. He sneered it a couple weeks ago, pronounced it "cheenee" and talked about his shady business dealings. I was very proud. We never discussed politics when I was a teen. I feel lucky that they are against the current administration, as I am. Beyond that, I dunno if we agree a LOT cuz we don't really discuss politics a lot.
