While talking with a fellow writer/creator in a group a person reported me for hate speech because I said this “I hate how in most modern shows and reboots of classic how they have the gay/lesbian characters. Not because they’re gay/lesbian rather because it doesn’t seem natural for the character. It feels like most of them are done in the manner where they are either wedged in to the role or its their only personality trait. You have shows like Steven universe where Garnet the fusion of Ruby and Sapphire along with Pearl feel natural in the role. Even though jealous lesbian is sometimes pearls only defining characteristic. While I love seeing people of the LGBTQ community in TV shows, movies, and cartoons I think they need to more fleshed out as a character then the straight characters. So they don’t come off as just the token character to fill the obligatory slot in the line up.” Does sound like hate speech or just a call to creators to write the characters better so they aren’t continuing a negative trend of stereotypes?
