This backwards way of thinking needs to end. How many times must this happen before a realization is made? How close does it need to hit before you will see? Your neighborhood? Your children's school? Your church?
Yes, self defense, we know... but how many stories read "Man saves family by shooting home intruder with his 4 pistols, 3 rifles and one automatic shotgun" ZERO.

I am a gun owner. I love to hunt and I love to target shoot, but it amazes me how the words "well regulated" are forgotten by most 2nd Amendment advocates. The fact that the word "well" actually made it into the final draft speaks volumes as to the intent of the founders and people forget how much debate is put into every word of a document like The Constitution. Keep your guns, Obama isn't coming for them I promise, but please support common sense regulation! Gun show loopholes need to go. Existing laws ordering violent offenders to give up weapons need to be enforced. Education should be mandatory both on safety and legalities. In Wisconsin I had to take a class before I could purchase a hunting license, but getting the actual firearms takes much less effort. It's dangerous and foolish.

That statistic of how often guns are used for self defense in a meaningful way is conspicuously missing from the national argument, if it existed I can't imagine the NRA and other gun industry lobbyist would be all over it. I own a gun, my neighbors are gun nuts and some friends own the kinds of guns that the ATF has to give permission to own. We all know the situation in this country is f'd and would be happy to see laws that limited gun access. Hell make us all fill out reams of paperwork and do continuing gun education qualification classes and tax the shit out of ammo and and and do something meaningful.
