A question for the Suicide Girls that might be reading this...
(LOL, yeah, both of you.)
It occured to me, as I was checking out a hopeful set in MR, that there have been several Hopefuls that have made it to review without posting a profile... I guess that this isn't the main problem. Not for me, anyway-- although the sense of community was probably the biggest thing that kept me coming back to this site after I initially signed up. I think that the biggest thing that bothers me is that many of these Hopefuls don't really fit the mold of what I, at least, would consider a "Suicide Girl." No piercings. No tattoos, or, at least, not much beyond the almost obligatory small "tramp stamp" tattoo. Distressingly conservative clothing and hair. Clean, professional photos that lack artistry, or even anything vaguely interesting beyond the girl posing in them...
Truthfully, these photosets remind me precisely of the other infinite porn sites out there. The sets are so... common, almost prosaic, that I wonder if I'm still logged in to this account or if I hit the wrong button, somewhere along the way.
Which presents a bit of a dilemma, in my mind, since it ALSO seems to me that a big part of what makes this community so cool is the idea of inclusiveness; the idea that women should be judged on their character, creativity, and beauty based not on how they look, necessarily, but on how they choose to express themselves, and how well they accomplish that goal.
It is a puzzlement. I mean, I know how I vote for these ladies (I wanna see some creativity, dammit, and most of the SG's and hopefuls I've seen have plenty to spare), but it troubles me that uninspired (but clean) photosets of very typical (if beautiful) models get higher grades than very creative (but slightly more amateurish) photosets of absolutely stunning (and very unique) women on the same page.
It seems that even "alternative" lifestyles are subject to commercialism. Which I find to be a damn shame, although I can hardly blame people for wanting to make money.
I dunno, I'm rambling, I guess, but I do find the whole thought process somewhat troubling. I love the fact that there is an online community where I can view and occasionally communicate with beautiful women who take pride in their individuality, who don't try to squeeze themselves into a molded, pre-packaged "look" for the sake of selling their sets, and who remain real and human no matter how many sets they've done. I hope that the powers-that-be don't take you all for granted.
"Nuff said. I'm gonna go draw one of you gorgeous naked ladies, now. Have a great night.
