Indie(stargirl) told me I had to update my journal. As a matter of fact, I think I have something to say.

When I joined the Marine Corps as an officer, I was promised a position of leadership. However, I did not really know what that meant until last night.

My combat correspondents worked with me from 7:30am to 8pm, completing the entire base paper a day early, even though they had one less day to get it done due to Columbus Day. I have never seen so much teamwork and so much pride in one's work. We were phenomenal. At moments when I was temporarily out of pages to edit, I would stand back and watch them work. They try so hard. I don't know if they do it for themselves or if they do it for the Marine Corps or they do it for us.

I only wish their commander could have seen them. She was busy with other things, and as her executive officer, it was my responsibilty to make sure everything got done right, and done on time. I take that very seriously, and I think that's part of the reason why my Marines take their work so seriously. They care more because I believe in them and their work...and I let them know.

That's why after their training, they'll be eating pizza as their captain talks to them about our possible deployment. That's why afterwards, I'll be sending them home tomorrow after they've only worked half a day. Because they deserve it.
