You know, I kind of have a hard time believing that so many people read my blog here. Its even more full of self-indulgent crap than my myspace blog.
But anyway, I was just thinking yesterday while I was doing my radio show that I'm really starting to get into the groove with it now. I went down there, I had 4 songs in mind when I got into the studio, queued them all up, played them, and just did my whole show totally on the fly, picking out songs as they came up, and really kind of making things go smoothly. I guess after a year of being a DJ, I'm getting it down finally.
Doing this diversions program, where the goal is to play a widely diverse mix of music, has really expanded my musical horizons. Since KVSC is essentially a progressive rock station, I'm getting a healthy dose of indie rock, electronica, and all that jazz. I'm still not the hugest fan of it, but its more tolerable than when I first started. Its interesting the way the mix works, where I'll start off with Miles Davis, then play some Morphine, Modest Mouse, or something like that, then a Phish song, then some bluegrass. I really like the diverse mix and listening to all kinds of new and different music. Most of the time, the first time I hear a lot of these bands is when I hit the play button to play the song on the air. Its almost as much of a learning experience to my listeners as it is to me.
I love being on the radio, its a lot of fun. I'm on thursdays 5-7 central time on www.kvsc.org if anyone wants to listen sometime. Its a lot of fun, and I've gotten lots of positive feedback on my show, so I guess that would mean its pretty good? Anyway, give a listen sometime, I'd like to hear what some SG folks think about it.
