I've been wondering a lot about the Platypus lately & here's what I've come up with:

The Platypus is proof of the existence of Jesus. Take as a given that God exists, right? Ok, so God is busy creating creating the Earth. God works from home, of course (where would His office be, do you think?). So, God is doing some fine detail work on the Unicorns when the kid wanders in.

"Whatcha up to?"
"Bringing things out from the Void, Jessie (for some reason 56% of parents have the urge to give their kids nicknames).
"Can I help?"
"Errr, it's very exacting work & I'm very busy. I have a tight deadline."
"Puuuulease?"
"Oh, all right. Here go make a Mammal, those are easy. Just don't undo Creation while you're at it."
"Yay!"

"Dad?"
(bits of Unicorn go everywhere) "Yes? What is it?"
"Where's the #5 Exitential Flux Wrench?"
"Second Drawer, on the right. Next to Norway."
"I need more Super String"

Even more time passes. Eventually Jesus proudly shows God his very own critter.

"Erm, it's a very nice . . . mammal."
"Yup! I used _every_ part in the mammal drawer Dad! Isn't it pretty?"
"It certaintly is unique . . ."

So you see the Platypus is God's version of fingerpainted drawings on the fridge.
