I am thinking I will try to replace my computer this year. Not sure when since I don't actually have any money, but it is definitely overdue for replacement. I've been looking at a replacement computer for over a year (maybe 2 now?) I am thinking about getting a Microsoft Surface Book 3 15". It is a 2-in-1 that can be a tablet (detaches from...

I think if I were in the market for a new laptop, and I wasn't getting a mac, I think I'd look towards AMD based laptops right now. This video convinced me of that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V3uB12mRrU

So the work conference I had in NYC at the end of March has been canceled due to coronavirus. I called the airline (United) and they are refusing to refund the tickets and there is a $200 per ticket fee to change to a different time/destination. That's almost what the tickets cost each to begin with! So it looks like I'm out like $1200 now...

Has anyone tried following one of those relationship building books or guides? The one that comes to mind is The Love Dare. I've only seen snippets of that book, but as I understand, it is a 40 day challenge. In each day of the challenge you try to focus on a particular area and keep things simple: one day at a time. I find that...

Has anyone tried one of these game streaming services such as snoope or parsec? It sounds interesting and might be a way to do away with dual-booting Linux and Windows on my gaming machine.

Seriously, who gives a fuck about boot times? We're talking about about 5-15 seconds of difference. If you are rebooting everyday and you are not a kernel developer testing fresh kernels on bare metal - guess what? You you are doing it wrong! That few extra seconds you might gain isn't worth including the goddamn kitchen sink! You are free to not use it -...

At what point does a simulation no longer emulate the real world and become real itself?

Take artificial intelligence, for example, and think about what it means to be alive. At what point does a series of input, reaction/consideration, and output (response) become real? In fiction, the AI (good or evil) suddenly becomes self-aware and this is the defining point where a simulation becomes reality....

I have a cat that likes to play a little rough with our other cat and the kids. I refuse to declaw. I've been clipping her claws on a bi-monthly basis, but sometimes we are just too busy for me to keep up on it. I was thinking this might be a good alternative (note: both cats are indoor only)

I hate it when distros (*cough*Ubuntu*cough*) remove packages between major releases. It seems like I run into this every time! The latest, which I encountered today, is mediawiki is no longer packaged in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS but it was in 14.04 LTS. Super annoying.

At least in Gentoo removed packages get a news item and/or a post_install message that says something like "hey, this is...
