Replacement computers, designs, etc.

I am thinking I will try to replace my computer this year. Not sure when since I don't actually have any money, but it is definitely overdue for replacement. I've been looking at a replacement computer for over a year (maybe 2 now?) I am thinking about getting a Microsoft Surface Book 3 15". It is a 2-in-1 that can be a tablet (detaches from base) or be a laptop. I've been reading and watching youtube reviews on the previous model (SB2) and the new one that came out a few weeks ago. So far the only downside that I can find is in that it is only a 4-core CPU, but I can live with that given my current isn't any better and a much older generation Core i5.

I think Microsoft could take a page from their GPU design book and put a second CPU in the keyboard base. Hot-swap CPUs are not a new thing and having a second CPU with more cores in the base when attached would solve the problem IMO.

As for replacement for me, the SB3 15" would not only replace my aging 17" laptop, but also my 12" netbook, and my ancient iPad that I inherited from my late father. So one device will be replacing 3. That makes the whole idea of buying a new computer more palatable in general. If we get a second stimulus check maybe I can use that and put the rest on a credit card...

I think if I were in the market for a new laptop, and I wasn't getting a mac, I think I'd look towards AMD based laptops right now. This video convinced me of that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V3uB12mRrU
