Wow Things Change Quickly in Life

Hey everyone,

I know before anyone says anything, I am sorry I have not fullfilled my promise to you all about keeping regular blogs and such. Its hard with the work I do and all the traveling and working in camps and in the middle of nowhere where there is no internet or cell service. I am sorry and do wish to be able to do more blogging in the future. SO with that out of the way, lets get on with the blog:

Things sure change quickly in my life sometimes. Take this last week. I have been up in a decommissioned mine working here as a medic while this company is working on creating a seasonal road from the mine to the main highway (180kms away thru mountains) This mine was created in 1978 - 1985. During that time, there was a road here, and construction on living quarters, kitchen, recreation room, mill, fuel station, fuel storage, administration building, airfield and protections around the river and such. Pretty big operation though lacking quite abit of enviromental things here that we have now a days. around 1985 the mine was shut down due to low Zinc prices. A few years later the Canadian Government decided to make a National Park that completely surrounds this mine. Never seen that happen before. So the mine company in the 2015's went bankrupt and the current owners took over. Around 2016 they sent small crews into this mine via airplane and choppers to start containments in the highest enviromental standards and actually beyond what is required. They have been doing this ever since. I got to join this team as a 3rd party Medical company here to look after the people here on site. Only about 20 of us but the workers are doing a awesome job doing the clean up. We have specialists working on the old road from the 80's to see about rehabing it and building where the rivers/creeks have changed the landscape and such. They are telling me its going to be about 2 years of work to make a all season road. We are just waiting on permits. Alot has gone into this planning with the government, first nations, and enviroment departments. 2 weeks ago they had a major meeting and everyone walked away extremely happy with this plan and are looking forward to getting the job started. Once the road is done we can go hard into cleaning up all the old vehicles and equipment, getting rid of contaminated soil and such and do a really good clean up. Then the construction on a enviromentaly sound camp and services will be made here and that should take up to 5 years to construct everything. With the advancements of green technoligy an such, this is going to be a pretty clean mine.

So the changes. As I mentioned I am working with a 3rd party Medical company. I flew in 2 weeks ago to do my regular shift here and was told we were being released as the mining company wanted to use thier own medics from thier company. I figured I was out of a job here (but not too concerned as I have lots of experience and would find a job else where, though I really really like this job) and was resigned to my fate. The mining supervisor and road construction supervisor is a man I worked with for a couple years a few years back. He came to me asking me to send my resume to him. I asked why and he wanted me to stay on this project. So for shit and giggles I sent my resume, and that was last week, and today I signed a 5 year deal with the mining company to not only be a medic but they will be training me to be a Safety Officer, and a fire safety tech to service the fire systems and extinquishers. And the rate of pay is double what I am making now LOL. It feels awesome to have the feeling of being wanted on a team for a great experience here. I am so lookin forward to the next 7 to 9 years working this job.

So outside that, not much has happened in my life. Enjoy seeing the beautiful women here, and getting to chat with wonderful people on and off throughout the day. It sucks the internet here is not the strongest and it drops a few times, ok quite often LOL but thats a price one pays for being isolated here. its a 1 1/2 hour airplane flight into this location and we are really right in the middle of a mountain range hehehe.

ok folks I am out of here. Hopefully I will get off my ass and do more blogs on how the adventure up here is going at my newest dream job.

Stay Chilly

Pola
