Today on the bus, this happened:
the (white) driver yelled back at a black guy who had just gotten on, implying that he hadn't payed his dollar. The guy held up his St. Rose ID card (which permits free rides) and said "See, look, I got it right here." The driver snapped "OH like I was supposed to see that." Some other guy came to the defense of the passenger and said "Well he has it right around his neck." The bus driver then said this a little quieter:
"He should have somethin else around his neck."
SILENCE!!
I could not believe my ears. Funny thing too, I had just gotten out of an African American history class where we were just discussing racism. I don't get what would drive a person to be so evil.
Poor passeger.
Also, dumb bus driver.. the bus was perdominantly black at the time. I bet he made a lot of enemies, including me, a white boy from the suburbs.
