Christmas day here in NC was rather mild- mid 50s, partly sunny. Gave me and the boy, home from Denver, a chance for some father/son bonding with a good old-fashioned country fire to dispose of the brush pile that had accumulated over this past year.

@littlejohn22 it was the best day I can remember in quite some time. The whole family (wife and sis) ended up pitching in too. We spent several hours talking and just hanging, and as you noticed, with a few beers for good measure. :-) Cheers to you and yours!

Oh wow ! Here in Scotland doesn’t look like it’s going to be snowing any time soon ! Last year we had some snow in April and May haha

@Paulinki- this is unusual here in North Carolina. Supposed to be a good chance of a big El Nino effect this winter which will mean more snow. But this is very early. Climate change chaos...:-/ Scotland is on my bucket list...soon...want to do a motorcycle tour. Preferably without snow! :-)

A s a follow up to my Sept. 13 post- I was back in Surf City for the first time since Florence. The pier mostly survived except for the "hexagon" at the very end. Lots of damage to beach front properties. Clean up and repairs are coming along. People are resilient and time heals.

@matterz What you don't see are the huge piles of debris that were on the beach during the early clean up. Most of that has been hauled off at this point. The first house in the picture has been condemned as structurally unsafe. It won't be rebuilt. What is missing from the picture is the front line of dunes that protected these houses. They are gone now for these structures. Not the case in all parts of the island, but here- not more protection.
